Hi, I’m Fei (Faye). Thank you for spending your time on my website.
Most of the content on this website is related to marketing. But I’d like to start with something else.
I’ve loved photography for more than a decade. For the most part, it’s been something I do simply for my own enjoyment, though occasionally some of my work has been published in the media. I’ve always been hesitant to call myself a “photographer,” or even to write “amateur photographer.” in my Rednote. Deep down, I feel that my work, including the photographs that have been published, has yet to earn me that title. Sometimes I ask myself: Can I really call myself a photographer? Am I satisfied with my work? As you can probably tell, I’m not particularly happy with most of it. 🙂
Now, back to marketing.
I’ve worked in this field for years, and compared with photography, I suppose I’ve had a few more accomplishments to show for it. Yet there’s always a voice somewhere inside me telling me that I’m still not good enough, that I haven’t quite earned the right to call myself a top-notch marketing professional.
Even though I once worked alongside with my CEO of a boutique publishing company in New York to create an entirely new marketing product, generating millions of dollars in revenue, helping a print media publisher survived and transformed into a marketing agency.
Even though, at one of New York’s largest health insurance companies, I completed a first-of-its-kind project that connected financial metrics with multi-touch marketing events, making it possible to calculate ROI at every level, from an entire marketing team down to an individual marketing tactic. The project also earned me a nomination for the company’s annual employee award, a recognition our marketing team hadn’t received in years.
I still, still hear that voice telling me I’m not good enough. (Perhaps I should place a tiny bit of the blame on my mother, who, when I was running for student council president back in school, once remarked, “She’s not quite up to it.”)
It’s just recent events have made me unhappy, and has also made me realize that I need to give myself more credit than I ever have before.
In that process, I’ve started looking back on my experiences over the years and trying to see myself from a different perspective. I’ve come to realize that behind the business value I’ve created, there has actually been a great deal of thinking of my own.
And that got me thinking: Perhaps I do have something worth saying. Perhaps my understanding of marketing has reached a point where I can begin putting forward some perspectives of my own. So I decided to create this personal website, centered on my professional interests. A small milestone in my journey of re-discovering myself.

Me, making my way through the muddy Hanakāpīʻai Trail in Kauaʻi, Hawaii.
